Don't be fooled the dairy industry is one of the cruelest on every level. Emanuel Exports, the company responsible for the ship in the live export footage, currently has a ship being held in Fremantle awaiting clearance for another live export trip. Inspectors from the Australian Maritime Safety Authority spent hours inspecting the Awassi Express after it docked in Fremantle on Sunday. What is sickening is the only reason that this investigation is happening now is because of the brave whistle-blower who decided this cruelty had to end. For years Emanuel Exports has reported huge numbers of animals dying on their live export voyages – numbers that are legally required to be included in the six monthly “Report to Parliament on Live-stock Mortalities During Exports by Sea”. So why after all these years has the Department of Agriculture continued to do nothing?? It may have something to do with the fact that the Liberal Party in WA receives huge donations from Emanuel Exports as reported in a Crikey article yesterday. ... See more
